The place took its name from an old windlight preset called "Wastes Midnight". 

What "Wastes" was meant to be was never clear to me. It was like a lot of what I do. I start somewhere with something, then I put something next to that and then it either takes on a life of its own - or not. "Wastes" did. I had a great time building it. And I think people liked to visit it. So...
